My kids love it here and we spend the whole day here. the dinosaurs and the area for kids to have hands on playing with basic experiments with magnets, levers, mirrors etc was great. the animals exhibit hv a very vast collection and we learn alot although most of the labels was in japanese. it would hv been great with english... This museum would receive an 'Excellent' marking had there been English labels next to the displays. I was surprised for a museum of this size and caliber in a tourist area to not have any translations. Look for the building with the locomotive and giant whale in front, directly behind the Ueno station. Despite all of that, the museum is... More

Went in the morning and left in the afternoon. There is so much to see. Visit this place if youu're interested in history and sciences. We spent a lot of time in the area where you can try our basic experiments i.e. generating power by cranking a lever, magnets, etc. You can get an electronic guide which is really helpful... More

We wanted to let our kids see real dinosaurs and this Tokyo museum came up on our search. As we only planned to spend a limited time there, we took a very targeted approach towards which exhibits we actually visited. So based on our experience at the dinosaur exhibit (our first encounter), the basement science exhibit and animal display we... More

I expected it to be along the lines on Natural History museum but it has a limited collection of animals, and minerals/rocks. There is one section on clocks which did not seem much interesting. The 360 deg theater is a good experience, last show at 4.30pm. They do have Eng Guides but all the labels and descriptions are Japanese. Overall... More

We visited on Friday at 5pm after a day at the ueno zoo. Found it almost empty. It is open until 8pm on Friday. We got the english audio guides. Quite eery being alone with all those stuffed animals in that low lit room but we really enjoyed it. Its big so we picked what we wanted to see -... More

This is about the worst museum I have ever visited. There are plenty of "hands-on" exhibits to play with and thousands of school-children on school trips to play with them and run around noisily when they are not playing. However, there are no explanations of anything in any language other than Japanese and the science connection is mostly obscure. As... More

Killed a few hours here on a Saturday afternoon. It was alright, but I think you really need some serious Japanese to get much out of it. The exception was the hands-on part in the second building. This was really fun and the most crowded part of the museum. We went on a cold Saturday afternoon and there were many... More

This is a very good museum to bring your kids for an education of natural history of the earth and Japan. It will be a bit too noisy when there's several school bus arriving with kids full of energy and mischief. However, it would be better that they come and be amused and educated by wonders of the nature that... More
