This was a fantastic place to visit. We saw all of the major ice age cave art caves and this was by far my favorite because you saw the real thing and could see it really close up. The spotted horse tableau is something that everyone should see. The rest of the cave is pretty nice too, but the drawings... More

We were really glad to have made the effort to come here because both the cave itself and the ancient drawings were outstanding. It is a privilege to get so near our ancestors and see the shape of a foot and hands as well as drawings of animals.I did not find the group too big, 24 people and our tour... More

These are among the only prehistoric caves in France where you can actually go inside, walk among the stalactites, and view ancient cave drawings. This is not Disneyland, this is the real thing, where cavemen and cavewomen lived and discovered their own creativity in the harshness of an 'uncivilized' world. And, as an aside, you should spend at least a... More

Well worth the time to experience. Tour is a walking tour with a maximum of 25 people but fewer would be better as some drawings are difficult to see unless in the front row. The air lacks oxygen down there so be aware if you have breathing problems but the guide stops often to point things out so you can... More

These turistic site, not far from the beautiful village of Saint Cirq la Popie, is in my opinion unmissable. The number of visitors who are admitted is limited, so reservations are recommandable during high season. The cave is very interesting taking into account the geological features, but it's worldwide better known for the prehistoric paintings. Unique and exquisite is the... More

This is one of the last cave painting sites that you can still visit. The art is astonishing. The walk experience is relatively easy with a steep flight of stairs at start. Getting there off the Autoroute takes a little over a half hour but is well marked and a pretty drive in spring. We arrived without reservations but had... More

Really worth visiting to see dozens of prehistoric paintings and a teenager's footprint. Incredible!

Booked a tour via the internet in English before we went. The place is well organised and looked very well kept. Our guide apologised for her English - evidently it was the first tour she'd done in the language. She shouldn't have worried; her English was excellent, and her enthusiasm for the subject was infectious. This is an awesome place,... More

There was such a feeling of walking in the footsteps of our distant (up to 25,000 years ago) ancestors here it made me shiver. Very good tour, even though we heard it in French as opposed to English it was easy enough to get the jist of what was being said and the guide was lovely and very helpful making... More

Wonderful - very informative. Marvellous to see the ancient cave paintings, and wonder about life was like thousands of years ago.
