A large Dzong with monasteries and administrative buildings, but looks old with inadequate maintenance. Not as impressive as Punakha and Trongsa Dzongs. More

This is very big Dzong and takes 3-4 hours to see completely. It is on river bank and nicely built. Kept very clean and One can get idea how Bhutan was administered in old days. This is the biggest Dzong in Bhutan.Location is scenic. More

From afar this Dzong may not look as impressive as inside, however once you entered the Dzong you will be impressed and surprised by the building in the inside courtyard. The wooden roof together with the ancient authentic strong made floors created a post card image of what it is like 100-200 years ago. Together with the monks and people... More

Wangdue Phodrang Dzong was built in 1638 atop a high hill above Puna river to control the roads between the mountainous Western Bhutan and the valleys of the Central. It consists of monastic and administrative sections according to the tradition. The artwork is great, dating from the last repair after a fire in 1837, historically authentic. Currently there is restoration... More

Wangdue Phodrang Dzong was clearly the most memorable dzong during my visit to Bhutan. It's not big or impressively decorated, but it was the one that had not been renovated or rebuilt ever (or at least in very, very long time). The timbers were old, structures little tired after supporting floors and balconies for centuries, corridors dark because there were... More

The Wangdue Festival was an amazing spectacle with masked dancers in vibrant costumes and wearing deer like masks, there were also young women performing songs then in the afternoon there was a performance of a comedy/drama with the characters again dress in elaborate costumes and wooden masks. The locals all attended the festival dressed in the best kira's and gho's... More
