We had not expected that we would see evidence of so much volcanic activity from the past in the Mojave or Death valleys. This crater is one of the best!

The beautiful multicolored rock formations make this a fascinating hike. The canyon is near the Stovepipe Wells area of Death Valley National Park. The rock formations are amazing. Many different colored rocks, all swept into beautiful smooth lines over time. There are layers of creamy colored marble right next to layers with lots of smaller rocks embedded in the walls... More

Some folks never get off the highway and think they've seen Death Valley. Nothing could be further from the truth. Put on your hiking shoes and see the unique colors and formations in Mosaic Canyon. Look at how the rocks are compressed into amazing designs and marvel at the cool, swirling, white marble as you hike. People, teens especially, do... More

My favorite canyon. A short drive to trail head, and a short hike through the most beautiful narrow, twisting canyon of polished marble. Continue past this section to rock fall for a different experience.

This was one of our kids' favorites due to all the rock ledges and neat (climbable) rock formations. Much preferred to Gold Canyon which seemed to be a glorified washed out ditch.

We did about four different hikes in Death Valley and thought this offered the most variety and interest. After about a mile and a quarter, you can keep going if you are willing to keep climbing and wiggling over some big rocks. We went a little further but found the first part of the canyon the most enjoyable.

We took this hike to kill time before hitting the sand dunes at sunset and really enjoyed it. You don't have to hike to far up the canyon until it gets interesting. Lots of cool boulders/trails/paths to climb on and explore. We really liked this one!

The dolomitic breccia, and weathered, twisty canyon are spectacular from a geologists standpoint, but anyone will find this canyon well worth their time to visit.

We chose this canyon because the wind was blowing 40 mph and we wanted some respite. What a beautiful canyon ! As we hiked up into the canyon we noticed a park ranger who was assisting someone trapped on a ledge. On our way back we witnessed her rescue by other park rangers with ladders and climbing ropes. She was... More

We visited Mosaic canyon around 4 pm on 2/21. You drive up a 3+ mile dirt road to get to the canyon. The road is easily drive by a passenger car (our Honda Civic had no problems with the drive). The hike starts out through a small slot canyon and you need to scramble up some slick (and slippery) marble... More
