Got there early, received a ticket and was in one of the waves in the evening that released in large groups. Watching hundreds of lanterns going overhead was breathtaking and somehow being one of the many releasing made it a once in a lifetime experience, since I do not know if I'll be in Taiwan at this time again. We... More

When I traveled to Shifen, it was in local train. Takes about 20 mts from Reifen. Snack stalls are attracting and sumptuous to eat.Names are in chinese I do not remember but good to eat. Just walk down 15 mts, you arrive at the falls. Follow the crowd, the train brings to show them all this. You will reach the... More

If you have never light up a sky lantern, then I guess it is worth to try it. Note that the driver that brought us there had to drive through mountain road which was quite long and winding. Each lantern costs NT$100 and different colors has different meaning. You are encouraged to pen your own well wishes or prayer using... More

well, theres not many places you get to release sky lanterns, so i guess this place is interesting enough. i went a couple of times, and i think the best time to visit is at night. some stalls allow you to release fireworks (not sure if it is legal?) together with the sky lantern at night and you get to... This place is really an interesting place. Other than the sky lantern! The view is very gorgeous. I took a lot of great pictures at this area as this old town is really colorful. Before we come to ping Shi station, you should visit the Rui Fang old town. There are a lot of good food there. The sky lantern... More

Writing all your wishes on the 4 sides of the lantern and releasing to the sky on the railway track. Interesting.

Visited Oct 21 Besides visiting the Taroko Gorge, just as the Bachelorette from the US has done, I hoped that one day I could participate in the lantern activity as well. That hope came true when we walked on the train tracks, and I saw big paper lanterns. Not only is it super cheap ($100NT) but it's fun, only if... More

We had our first try at releasing a sky latern. It was done during the evening, beside a railway track. While writing our wishes on the laterns, a train went pass which I thought was dangerous but yet exciting. After releasing, we bought some fireworks from the store and had lots of fun.

A visit to Ping Hsi (平溪) to release a sky lantern. According to the tourist pamphlets, Shih Fen (十分) area used to be coal mines and are tucked in remote mountainous area not easily accessible by transportation.
