I used to live on San Juan Island from 1997-2007. I took a new comer (I now live on another island) to SJI for the day to show her some of my favorite places. The park is really nice and easy to get around and the washrooms are very appreciated. Unfortunately we didn't see any Orcas this day.

You can observe Minke whales, orcas, porpoises, seals, sea lions and otters cruising the shoreline of this park. The peak whale-watching season is May through September, with June and July being the most likely months to see whales. The lighthouse was built in 1919 and still serves ships in the Haro Strait. Interpretive programs and lighthouse tours are available during the... More

A nice little State Park (requires a fee). Situated on the west side of the Island with views toward Vancouver Island. Good possibility to see the Orca whales during the right time of the year. If you prefer not to pay to enter the park, there are many nice viewing areas just to the south along the road which are... More

Stop here if you are looking for whales! Two of the three times we were here we saw whales! A great spot to picnic and just a gorgeous view! The only drawback is the lighthouse it self is run by volunteers and sometimes there is no one there to man it! If you happen to be there when Jeanne is... More

Great place to have a picnic lunch and watch the orca whales and harbor seals. They also do a lot of research from here so it's a wonderful place to start your shore-line search for the orcas.

This park and its view of water and whales is beyond description! It's a must see destination on any of the San Juan Islands.

We went out to this park on the 1st day of our island visit. We were able to see a couple of Orcas that came close to the lighthouse, but we also saw some more whales the next day on our boat ride. You can take some food since the park has a couple of picnic tables, but there's also... More

Like everywhere else on this island, the views are amazing. There are a couple of trails to check out, one that leads to an old lighthouse. Madronas scattered everywhere. My girlfriend and I watched a group of harbor porpoise swim by as we hiked. Definitely worth a stop, but be prepared to pay the $10 fee.
