this was written up as a "must see" once I got in the court yard, it was not very well marked ... very exciting piece of heritage, poorly promoted. Not very well attended when I was there, based on the amount of people touring the city that day.

Built in 1635 on the point (Punda) of the eastern finger of land at the harbor entrance it was the most important of Curaçao's eight forts, and is included in UNESCO's list of World Heritage sites. Embedded in its southwest wall is a cannonball fired by Captain Bligh's troops.

Nice little detour when you cross the Queen Emma Bridge. Turn right at the waterfront and enter through an arch on the left. The facade of the yellow colored Governor's Palace is nice. On the inside there are mainly other government office buildings but the open courtyard is a nice walk.

When you walk on the big walls you can almost touch the big ships coming in to Willemstad. Intregrated in this fort is the Place Hotel. 2 minutes walk from Downtown Willemstad.

This is where the government settles and the governor live, a part of our cultural heritage, which we have to keep in good shape.

It was $4 for the musuem, $3 for the church or $6 for both. The church is pretty nice. The musuem is small. Can't use their private bathroom. I would pass next time. But while you're there look up from outside on the step above the entrance is a cannon ball still in the wall! It was a nice stop... More

The final stop of the "Historical Willemstad Trolley Tour". A lot of history - but not really much to see.
