We stayed at the Renaissance Jaragua Hotel and Casino right along the Malecon. I live in Santo Domingo in 1969 and my parents, siblings and I used to walk up and down the Malecon at night and I did the same with my sons while we were there. It is a great place to experience a little of the local... More

We noticed that they have improved the area. More lights, more plazas that attract families. I loved walking or driving around

Nice area close to the ocean. Mixed with locals and tourist. Great restaurants, casinos, and hotels. Also close to the Sambil mall which is new in the area.

We stayed in the old city and the first night we walked over Malecon, all the way to Adrian Tropical (dominican restaurant next to the water). We loved the fact that there were a lot of people (old, young, childeren, all kinds of people) walking there, sitting there, jogging, etc. It had a real cozy feeling to it. There are... More

I travel to the Dominican Republic on a monthly basis and stay at the Hilton on the Malecon.I like to walk in the early evening. This area was wonderful before and around the time of last years election as it was kept very clean. Now it is very dirty with garbage along the shoreline and in the water and at... More

We did not eat at any of the restaurants along the malecon, we just walked around. I got some beautiful shoots from the distance of the waters and the ships. While we were out there stunt planes flew over us - it was cool to see that in the R.D. Lots of people complain about the trash on the beach.... More

the trash that has built up against the rocks is impossible to ignore. The place is beautiful but people throw their garbage over the edge, even at a cafe where the table was right at the edge of the coral cliffs, the waiter pushed our paper and plastic utensils off the table and over the edge! Unbelievable!

The Malecon is the meeting point for most local events (concerts, carnival parades, Independence Day parade, New Year's Eve free concerts, etc. and Sunday family gatherings). It is secure as police men patrol all the time. A bit noisy, because there is a lot of trafic but the view on the ocean is breathtaking. The government has voted a bill... More
