This is a beautiful church and well worth the visit....but don't miss the dancing. Every Sunday evening in the plaza in front of the church there is Guadalajara's version of ballroom dancing! There are apparently lessons/practice starting at 7:00 PM with the more advanced dancers appearing at 9:00 PM??. As we watched the very formal spinning and stepping my wife...

enjoyed it all !! Great very very old place ! not touristy at all many vendors about for drinks etc Must be respectful as this IS a currently used local church
Stained glass and amazing architecture. Very different plaza with only native art for sale. So quiet.
Its like traveling through time ... the architecture is incredible definately a must see in guadalajara

I love this place so much. I got married here! It is just beautiful inside and out. And there is nothing better than being surrounded by Mexican culture - which you can really absorb in the court yard in front of the church. One of Guadalajara's true gems. Love it.
Expiatorio was my favorite place in central Guadalajara only a 20 minute walk from the very center of the historic district. Gothic architecture. Great stained glass. A parade of the twelve apostles coming out of the clock tower after mass just like in some German clocks. It looked just like some of the great cathedrals in Spain and France. Definitely worth a short stop.
At night the plaza outside comes alive with incredible eats and artesian vendors. One of my favorite spots in the whole city and only a 10 minute walk from the center of Guadalajara.
