if you've seen mines in the area before, it's not an absolute must. but the tour is fine, the mine very busy with tours, and involves steep climbs so be prepared.

Great Experience, you get the feeling of what was like to work in a Colonial era mine, highly reccommended for adventurous people, kind of creepy experience, not reccommended for claustrophobics.

If you like minning and stones, you will love the visit, if you don't even is a nice stop for most city tours where you can buy some beautiful stones as souvenirs.

Mine? What mine?? All you see is some old equipment and a few old stone structures. Most of the site is dedicated to selling tourists food and knick knacks.

The tour guide speaks only Spanish (I do not) but I understood every word of his well articulated tour. We went down into the mine as he told us the story of the slaves that had to mine for the Spanish overlords. Give him a good tip. Great history and education about the area.

Colonial Guanajuato was built on silver, and this mine was one of the key producers- The metal was carried across the Atlantic to enrich the spanish crown The vein ran out and the mine died.

Once the greatest, biggest and richest mine in the world, nested in the colonial town of Guanajuato, this mine is one nice tour.

The grounds are lovely, the views from around there spectacular and though I am somewhat claustrophobic I was able to manage the path down into the mine. The mine itself gives a very good idea of what underground mining was like back in the old days of Guanajuato.
