I had a great time with Socoro and enjoyed all dishes we made. Traditional Tlayudar, Mole Negro, and Tamale.....just thinking about them makes me drooling. The host family is super nice. Great place to spend your day and experience Mexican cuisine.

I had the pleasure of participating in over a dozen classes with chef Socorro and her family during my 6 month stay in Oaxaca. I am a chef and went there to learn spanish language and to broaden my knowledge of Méxican cuisine, and I certainly learnt a huge amount with them. Their classes are delivered brilliantly...you start off with... More

I have nothinq but praise for the folks who offer this fine Oxacan cookinq class. We were picked up at our hotel and treated to a fun market experience. We were especially qreatful to have this on the first day of our trip as it helped orient us to the city and it's ways. Gerardo was friendly, fun and skilled... More

It was fine. Not a great time, but was an ok way to spend a half day. There was a bit too much of the instructor looking at his phone and texting, but I suppose that is a pet peeve of mine. The tour of the market was good, the space was pleasant, the food mostly tasty, and his mom... More

This was my first cooking class. I most enjoyed the trip to the market to learn about all the different ingredients. And being picked up at the hotel simplified things too. At the class I spent most of the time roasting chilies and chopping vegetables. I would have liked to have learned more about the the 'secrets' of how to... More

Really loved my cooking class here at La Cocina Oaxaquena. It was great to be picked up at my B and B by such a friendly, clean-cut, not to mention good-looking, young man, Gerardo. Turns out he's also the chef and teacher! Nice experience to go to the market to get the fresh ingredients, then to his Cocina, which was... More

We had an awesome experience with Gerardo and his amazing family! He picked us up from our hotel, took us to the market for fresh, organic ingredients and proceeded to teach us the secret recipes for the best Mole of two different types! Quesadillas to die for with cheese wrapped in a squash blossom and knock your socks off margaritas!... More

We visisted La Cocina Oaxaquena while in Oaxaca last week and had a wonderful experience. The family was very accommodating with my 2 young children (4 & 5) and was able to help them fully participate - making guacamole, homemade tortiallas, and slicing tortillas for Aztec Soup. It was fun to use some of the utensils we've seen in Mexican... More

My partner and I had such a great day today with socorro, Gerardo and Lithuania..... We had squash/zucchini soup and mole coloradito with chicken. Oh and of course the tasty rice. Exquisite. Everything that needs to be said has been by all the other reviewers. Thank you for an amazing and delicious experience.

While staying in Oaxaca we took a cooking class at La Cocina Oaxaquena and were met by the very friendly and kind Gerardo (who also spoke good english). He took us out to buy ingredients in the markets and iIt was a great experience. He introduced us to the market-sellers and explained about the ingredients. We then went to his... More
