We did this excursion via a collectivo from Gran Bahia Principe, no problem. Just a few dollars, no need for a taxi !
Just make sure you're travelling in the correct direction (if not, you go to Playa del Carmen !)
There is a nice market to browse before the ruins, either an approx 10 minutes stroll or take transport...

The ruins were very cool to see. It was very hot, so bring plenty of water and sunscreen! We had a tour guide, but she was hard to understand. It was nice to get shown around, though. There is a beach there that you can get down to and swim. Its beautiful. Highly recommended.
Liked everything! Especially "The Castle" a Maya fortress overlooking a magnificent beach! Ocean is nice, clear and warm. Wear a hat and bring water as it can get very hot in a sunny day. Iguanas everywhere basking in the sun!
We visited the ruins of Tulum as a shore excursion we purchased through the cruise ship. The excursion took about 7 hours and it took every minute. As soon as we got off the ship we have to get on a boat to get to the mainland (about 40 minute trip). The trip there was very rocky, made a few...

although you could not touch these ruins you could walk around the site freely. We spent a couple of hours walking round taking pics of the iguanas :-) The beach was busy when we went but looked fabulous
Easy to get to by bike from Tulum, beautiful beach access, probably learn more with a guide than just reading the posters

THere were crowds of people from everywhere, it was fun to hear all the different languages. We went early in the day but not early enough to avoid the heat. The iguanas are obviously the...

There is a short walk (300 meters) from the parking lot to the entrance of the ruins, but there is a shuttle available if that would be too difficult. The ruins are about a half mile long, but don't take too long to walk around, and its not very crowded if you go early. The beach looks nice, but we...
