Love the ocean breeze, beach is beautiful and great hiking trails. Great if you only have a short time to visit or if you have hours to spend exploring.
Beautiful place to get a sense of Nanaimo being right on the edge of wilderness. We saw osprey and a bald eagle, squirrels and a riot if fawn lilies. It's well worth scrambling over rocks to get a bit further away from the beach.
Make sure to walk/climb the rocky outcrops at the end of the beach. Beautiful path...wonderful scenery...watch the ferries, the wildlife, etc.
Beautiful setting, good signs to find it, good parking, easy trails, dogs must stay on leash. Check the tide table before you go.

The beach area is great for relaxing on or checking...

Piper's Lagoon has wading pools for the kids, big grass areas, Shade trees, and a waterfront walk connected to the marina area with coffee shops. The water walk goes from Piper's Lagoon to downtown in one direction and to some nice rocky scenic beaches in the other direction.
Good place to see wildflowers in late April and May and for birdwatching anytime of the year. Has a nice trail which gives you chance for a pleasant wlak of about 60 to 90 minutes.
