First - this museum is free (although donations are encouraged), so there is no reason not to go! This museum was much better than I expected. It's in the residence where the wardens of the penitentiary used to live, which gives it some more historic flair. My favourite part by far is the room where they have all the contraband... More

A must visit, small but so interesting. The staff are fantastic and the place is beautiful. There is no admission fee and honestly we were so happy to give the donation we did to help keep the museum going. The first hand perspective from the former guard was so intriguing. Loved seeing my partner in the water punishment apparatus, that... More

This small museum, located in the beautiful former Warden's residence of Kingston Penitentiary, shows all things prison and prison life. A visit is free; donations are obviously welcome though. It is run by spirited volunteers. There is a wheelchair ramp in the back of the building so everyone should be able to go check it out. Or at least the... More

First, it calls Canada's Penitentiary Museum not Correctional Service of Canada Museum. Second, the address is 555 King Street West, not East. I'm very impressed to this attractive. First, it was free (well, who would say "no" to free). The museum was the former Warden's residence of Kingston Penitentiary. Each room had different theme, such as uniforms, punishment, women staff,... More

This is an interesting little museum. It is staffed by retired correctional services officers who are very passionate and have lots of interesting stories to tell. it is a self-guided tour, though if you ask, the staff will share their knowledge with you. It is in a small house, with four rooms on the first floor and two three rooms... More

My favorite room contained the weapons made by inmates using ordinary items found inside the penitentiary (eg: toothbrushes, lighters etc). It was interesting to see how creative inmates got. Entry is by donation to the group that maintains the museum.

This is a very good museum that really allows a peek into what life was like in the prison system many moons ago. There are some items that may induce pity and horror like the chinese water torture and the comparison of jail cells in the old days compared to now is great. There is also many examples of confiscated... More

We always takes guests to this museum, considered one of the best small museums in Canada. Admission is by donation and tours can be arranged for groups. The museum is housed in the old Warden's house for the original Kingston Penitentiary. There is a great selection of static displays and confiscated prison items. The museum provides a real glimpse into... More
