I had limited time so was only able to visit the Miao villages of Xijiang, Zhouxi, Shiqiao and Langde. I felt Langde was the best by far. The village is set in a forested valley and you can take pleasant short hikes outside rhe village in either direction. The village itself is lovely, much less developed and crowded than Xijiang...

Langde is a small Miao minority village near Leishan, there is no entry fee.
It is a working village with the inhabitants going about their daily chores and unlike other villages in China it does not feel at all like an ethnic minority themepark.
There was minimal hassle to buy souvenirs (when we did it was all in good humor)...
