Despite the huge period image of the old fish quay blown up to cover the whole of the frontage of the building it seems that few people actually know what goes on here. It is an amazing and accessible collection of local photographs and well worth at least an hour or so looking around. The staff are very helpful and... More

Thanks Tripadvisor for the increasing content for attractions in the Plymouth area. Even as a West Country woman I did not though the Merchant's House existed. Not surprised because I now learn how hidden away it is. I will look in when it is open in the summer. But then I found the listing relating to the Image Bank. I... More

The Image Bank is a jewel in Plymouth's crown. I found the manager/archivist to be extremely helpful and polite. She had vast knowledge about all of the photos in the collections and this bought the pictures to life in the minds of the visitors. I would recommend a visit to the archive and also to the shop as they offer... More

Always interested in local history I was delighted by the enlargement and desiring of this comparatively recent institution. They are very helpful and have a lot of stuff. I too like the huge enlarged photo on the outside wall. Nor are they jealous of their own materials. When I last went in one of the very helpful staff told me... More

Living close by I have been intrigued by the sign and the splendid photo covered shop front. Eventually took a look. A small but interesting front room but the real delights are in behind and above and the staff are so helpful. They know what they have in the mammoth collection of old photos. They also helped us to watch... More

When I decided to review the SWIB I thought I would just recommend people to look only at photos available online but having gone down not long before Christmas in search of some photos for my elderly parents I cannot hold that view. The website is well worth a look but you need to go and look at the shop... More

We have family connections with Plymouth and keep our boat here for part of each year. I remember the old fish market, parts of the Barbican before rebuilding and Sutton Pool when it was tidal before the lock. The image bank is a fantastic resource which we have only just begun to tap. Wouldn't have known of it but for... More

Very pleased that the image bank is finally getting recognition and publicity both well deserved. Go look. You will not be disappointed. Try as a master the website link above. Unfortunately, despite the huge amount of materiel already online, the site is cumbersome and old fashioned. The image bank itself, and the very new address on the parade is accessible... More

I visited the new SWiB gallery and archive in their new premises, 25 The Parade, Plymouth. Situated right next to the Lenkiewicz Mural and The House That Jack Built... I cannot say enough about how enjoyable I found the experience. From the very friendly and helpful front of house staff to the wonderful displays which have been set up in... More
