No wifi on board, the light refreshments are minimal with almost everything chargeable. Very poor in comparison to Virgin and GNER.

As a regular user of First Great Western trains, I really can't understand why they have so many negative reviews. There are generally plenty of seats available and out of the hundreds of journeys I have made, I can't actually recall a single delayed service. Also, they always make it clear which seats are reserved - take note Virgin trains,... More

I had a simple journey planned in theory. Truro to St. Ives with 1 change at St. Erth and a 10 minute connection at St Erth. The ticket office assistant at Truro was rude and talked sarcastically when I asked him for the price of the ticket and I am convinced he made me spend more money. I had checked... More

Absolutely terrible consumer experience - delays poorly dealt with - toilets often blocked and wet floors - automatic doors between carriages often broken and dangerous, have had them shut on me previously! - trains often have dirty carpets and seats - over crowded - over priced I unfortunately have to use their service regularly, so this is an overall review... I spent 45 minutes on an international call with FGW this morning, only to be disconnected before ever receiving an accurate fare quote. The first gentleman I spoke to took down my information with regard to the tickets I wanted to purchase, then put me on hold numerous times to "check on things". When he finally verified that the tickets... More

Delayed regularly and very expensive. They always announce that they have signalling problem which lead to trains being late for more than 1 hour sometimes!!!

I use First Great Western 1st Class regularly for business travel from London to Cardiff. It is an excellent service, plenty of room, comfortable, bright and airy, and the at-seat service is very good. Typical price for a 1st class return is about £90. Generally 1st class is no more than about 40% full, and there is plenty of space... More

It is difficult to understand how a business can be so far out out of touch with its customers. I have in the past three days travelled with Virgin, Eastcoast and Great(?) Western all in First Class and it seems what little service FGW provide stops at the weekend. Very simply if you are paying for a premium service you... More

The service is terrible at every turn with constant delays and usually overcrowded carriages. But my main problem is with the attitude of the ticked inspectors. They have clearly been trained to be incredibly zealous in their approach to issuing fines. I was late for a train one day and did not have time to purchase my ticket at the... More

Hello Tony. Thank you for posting a review of our service. I'm really sorry to read about the problems you had. We take revenue protection very seriously, but we expect all of our staff to be polite and courteous at all times. The National Rail Conditions of Carriage states that you must purchase a valid ticket before you board the... More

I've been commuting between Maidenhead and Paddington for about 18 years and feel I'm therefore expertly qualified to review FGW. I want to make sure that every person reading this understands that this company is utterly, utterly apalling by just about any measure you care to question. They have the total monopoly on trains in and out of Paddington, and... More
