I had a couple of hours spare on a recent trip so visited this gallery. It's not on the scale of some but none the worse for that - it's a great place to spend an afternoon without feeling that you will miss things.
There are some very special pre-Raphaelite paintings, and a display of empire posters was fascinating.

Visited with my adult daughter. The gallery is well laid out and easy to navigate. Its contents are solid, if not spectacular, so while it is worth a visit, its definately not a must-see attraction.

Visited on a day when they had a children's activity session. The kids really enjoyed the screen printing. Took out one of the activity sacks about Greek Myths while waiting for the paintings to dry. Kids had a great time!

A variety of art work, from paintings to large sculpture. Some of Lowry's work is exhibited here. Housed in a lovely old building. Easy flow from gallery to gallery with good signposting. Excellent interactive areas for children, with opportunities to actually produce and display some art yourself. Close to central Manchester. Free admission. Toilets clean. Great cafe with reasonable prices.

The gallery has a wonderful collection of interesting art covering many periods and movements. It is very well presented and is worthy of repeated visits.

As you enter there is a small gallery featuring all things Mancunian...a great Lowry of Piccadilly Gardens, album covers of the Smiths, stills of A...

Amazing seeing all the art that dates back. Not even a 5minute walk from MacDonald Townhouse Hotel
