Whilst the central library is still being worked on , this temporary replacement is a good selection, with plenty of computers and books on display and helpful staff to assist with needs.

Even though it was right across the street from our hotel, we were shut out because it's undergoing extensive renovations. Check the website to see when it reopens.

Impressive old building in the centre of Manchester. There was a great theatre company based here, but they are currently renovating the library so the theatre company are working elsewhere. I can't wait for it to come back to the library as I used to be a regular. The theatre was small and the atmosphere always great.

This is closed at the moment because a lot of work is being done both in and around it. I am sure it will be well worth another visit when it is finished

Wonderful old building, inside and out, but at present closed for refurbishment. Theatre in the basement I understand is now moving.

A good looking building, just how I remembers library's to be as a child. I take my children there and they love it. Staff are helpful and atmosphere is great.

More than well worth a visit when reopened post renovations. Beautiful and monstrously huge, you really can't see it all or experience it over a single day. Amazing, can't wait for it to reopen.

Does anyone remember the Shabby Tiger series - a story of people in Manchester during the depressed 1920s and 1930s.
