This is a perfect place for a picnic. We took a bike tour which included a trip to the Versailles markets for supplies for our picnic. It is impressive for the story of construction, location and the history. However in terms of what to see, it really is just a man made lake/canal......impressive for the time.
Beautiful setting, over an hour plus to walk around, great view of the Chateau. Rowboats can be rented for a leisurely tour on the water, if someone else is pulling the oars.
Take the little train & stop at the Grand Canal, you will not regret it, especially if it is a nice sunny day.
We just walked around it and people-watched while people biked around or rowed boats in the canal. It was a lovely place and we enjoyed seeing it from many angles.
There are usually a couple swans that like to hang out here and on a warm day it is a beautiful place for a picnic. You can also rent row boats and go up and down the canal.
We biked around and enjoyed watching the couples in their rowboats. My husband and I decided we would come back and do that next time - looks like fun!
