A must see to not forget that here too in what's called " The great war" 50,000 U.S. dedicated service members paid the ultimate price for Freedom during that horrible period in time. Time that will tell if we are learning lessons from the past. History to the fullest a very weel laid out museum within the actual battle field.... More

Great museum--very informatIve, very moving.. Drawings and cartoons portion was especially interesting. Everyone in Verdun seemed so cheery and nice. Seemed very French-centric, understandably, nonetheless a great exhibit---but really smelly bathrooms. Go before you visit..!

It's very tough to define what the "Verdun Battlefield" really is since the area is peppered with monuments, relics, forts, and remnants of the 10 month siege. Much of the "battlefield" is now overgrown with trees and brush, but you can envision the carnage of the once barren fields by seeing the pot marked topography that is nearly everywhere you... More

The battlefields are amazing to walk through with all of the craters from grenades and mines. There are miles and miles of battlefields resulting from over a year over heavy fighting.

If you are a history nut about WWI, then this is a must. So much of this area has been left as is that you can get a feel for what it looked like at the end of the war if you look out under the trees and note the undulations of the land from the interconnected shell holes.

The site of ground that looks as if it has been pounded by massive hail stones, millions of shell impacts have left the area deformed for ever. Every inch not purposely leveled for use, is damaged. Reading of the amount of shells in place at he beginning, and for every push, this makes more sense. At different points during the... More

It looks so calm and beautiful now - it's difficult to conceive of the horrors that happened here, not that long ago.

The battlefields, the cemeteries, the memorials. Everyone should spend at least a day experiencing this. The horror and senselessness of war is really brought home here. I will definitely be back to see more of the Verdun sights.

Visiting Verdun was surprising. A well kept city with a lot of memories of the Great War. The monument are impressive, great museums (especially the museum of peace). The café's and restaurants along the river Meuse are relaxing and you can enjoy good food. It's is no problem to spend 3 days in this city and its surroudings.

Very good museum that provides an intimate look at life in the trenches via personal items of the soldiers on both sides of the war.
