More modern painters on display when we went and after visiting Monet's home/gardens this was a total disappointment. Did a quick walk through and then left. Nice building though.
We were a little disappointed with this museum which we thought would offer some background to the impressionist art movement and provide clarity and understanding into the various impressionist painters/paintings. As another reviewer said most of the gallery space was devoted to an exhibition by a Japanese artist and we found we had allocated far more time than was needed.... More
A little museum next to Monet's house and garden. It has an original Monet and many other artists. It's garden is also a work of art.
The current exhibit is of Japanese contemporary art. The idea is to show the influence on Monet & many other Impressionists when they looked to Japanese art. It was disappointing to see so little Impressionistic work. The panels & repetitious patterns on the paintings made a quick viewing experience for me. There just was not a lot to pull in... More

There were only two paintings by Monet on display, in spite of the fact that it is a block from his home. The overwhelming majority of the works were by a single Japanese impressionist. Extremely small collection. Time killer, but otherwise not worth it.
The access to the gardens outside the museum is free. They are beautiful and set out nearly like a maze. Each garden has a different colour or theme. Well worth a visit. We were lucky to see the "Hiramatsu - The lily pond, hommage to Monet" Exhibition. Worth the trip to Giverny in itself.
I was attracted into the museum by the posters advertising a display of Japanese artist Hiramatsu's work. Hiramatsu was influenced by Monet's work and visited Monet's garden. His paintings are wonderful! It was very interesting to see Monet's garden through a Japanese artist's eyes considering that Monet's work and his garden were inspired by Japanese aesthetics. I really enjoyed the... More
We visited this museum during our trip to Giverny to see Monet's house and gardens. I assumed there would be a good amount of Monet's work, and there were only a handful -- if that -- of his paintings hanging there. There was an exhibit of work by a Japanese impressionist, which was very nice. And a few lesser known... More
