Lovely views, nice walk round, interesting place to visit even if you don't like beer. Typical food which you get yourself as all is self-service. Not too far away down the hill around the corner and up a small hill is a wonderful restaurant with a big terrace (not belonging to Andechs) overlooking the country side. Check it out. More

Two of my husband's friends RAVED about the monastery (for the beer, not the sites), so we made the 40 min trip out of Munich to go. I still don't know if I thought it was worth the side trip, especially since we found this beer at Andechser am Dom next to the Frauenkirche in Munich. We got the doppelbock.... More

Drove to Herrsching, parked and then hiked up to the monastery, alot of locals on the hiking path, it was beautiful, took about 1.5 hours, the church is beautiful but the treat at the end of your hike is the food! Roasted pig knuckles, a pretzel and this orange cheese spread for the pretzel and beer of course! YUMMY! More

Brilliant - Thousands converging for the 1/2 litre Beer Mugs, humongous Hachsen, Fish and Roas Pork, Ham and Onions, Pretzels and humongous Dessert line up. Phew...... Never miss it on your way back to Stuttgart. More

Beautiful old monastery with spectacular view of Ammersee. Nice gift shop. Andechs beer and honey (not together) were delicious. A very special place to visit! More

Good German fare on Monastery Patio ....and one of the worlds Best Dark Beers. Recommend taking a designated driver for getting back down the hill...where you can finish off a beautiful day out with coffee & cake and a walk on the lake. More

We loved this place. The monastery was beautiful and the grounds lovely to walk around. Be prepared to hike uphill. The beer garden was so much fun and the beer the best we found in Germany. Not to be missed. More

We loved the look of the monastery, the hike through the forest before we finally got there, the scenery, the adventure. The food when we reached was fantastic as well and so affordable (about 10 euros for enough pork knuckle and belly to feed the both of us, as well as a beer)! The beer was also the best we'd... More

What is there not to love? Take the S Bahn to Herrsching stroll for an hour through the bucolic country side, climb the "Heilige Berg" oogle at the beautiful Baroque church and retire to the Gasthof for a delicious Schweinshaxe (Euro 14) and it easiluy feeds two and wash the whole feast down with the outstanding beer brewed by the... Especially nice when it isn't too crowded. The walk from the city of Herrsching up to the Monastery is an easy one, and can easily be done with children. The Monastery and surrounding area provide a beautiful view on clear days. The service at the restaurants leaves a lot to be desired, but the beer is definitely worth it -... More
