There will be a line before 6pm. We sat across the street and had paella and watched the waiters stand in the hot sun while we drank beer. At 6:15 we strolled into the front door with no wait at all. We did this two days in a row in spring- I don't know if it will work during the... More

A chance to see several paintings you studied in college. Don't be discouraged, you can do it in 2-3 hours if you stay focused and don't read everything. Take time with what appeals to you most and stroll slowly past the others. Unless you have 2 full days, that's the only way to do it. Be sure to check out... More

Went mainly to see Goya's works. Prado has more the ambience of a lube shop than a gallery. Not worth the 14? pp. Lots of art, and throngs of people jockeying for position. We found the Ermita de San Antonio de la Florida a much better experience.

The Prado houses the greatest painters in grand style. No art or culture lover should miss this on their visit to Madrid. It would take you days to see everything, so best choose well to avoid fatigue. The famous Goya section is impressive and depressing.

I got a year's subscription for 36 euros which allowed me to jump the considerable queues here and at the Reina Sofia and gave me free entry to both of these and other museums. Audio guide excellent. Different rooms not well signposted so I found myself wandering round looking for Goyas. I found the writing about various pictures difficult to... More

The Prado museum is a must-see place even for non-art experts. A huge selection of special pictures from many decades. We planned this attractions for a rainy day in our trip to Madrid. Spend there at least 3-4 hours, preferably longer.,

This is the WORST laid-out museum I have ever seen! The layout of this museum is awful. It's a total maze. The "Plan" map that they give you has huge holes in it with unlabeled areas. The map is wrong in many places with errors and omissions and misleading lines and it is extremely difficult to navigate around this museum.... More

The first tip: the museum has free hours. Mon-Sat: 6-8 pm, and Sunday 5-8 pm. However it gets quite crowded, and it may take a while to retrieve your bags from the coatroom. So just be mentally prepared for that. For a short visit, follow the "master piece" list of the museum floor plan. For a more leisure visit, rent... More

First the museum so crowded that we couldn't enjoy the paintings. Then, the audio guide didn't work well. To be honest, we were expecting more of modern art.
