We climbed the portion only on a hot humid June day. Also, this wasn't our first volcano hike so perhaps the unique/glamour appeal was lost on us. Was not aware there would be a 10 Euro charge. Afterwards, not sure why it was so high. Yes, Italy doesn't have the national/state funding for parks but there was very little to... More

We've been there on a beautiful day,so beautiful view from top.You must park your car at the base camp and there, take a big 4X4 to the nearest point from the top that the 4X4 can go and walk about 15 to 20 mins to join the cratere. It's a good walk,so be prepare, but it's not too hard either. The price... More

Misinformation from guide. Bad weather did not help, We were lift at base of the climb, in a poor shop/cafe, while we waited for the climbers return. We should have been left at a better hotel/restaurant. One needs good boots, a stick and warm clothing

We took the all in tour from Pompeii Scavi Station. It was an entertaining ride to the mountain with our driver answering his phone three or four times during the journey. I was also amazed when he didn't give way to an ambulance (with siren wailing and lights flashing) that wanted to get past on an emergency run to the... More

Wonderful, awesome experience, I came back to Mount Vesuvius after 3 years, and the sight was spectacular even this time. I'm a geologist, so I love the Nature and its power. I assure you, climb the Mount Vesuvius is something to do, better if you study first a little history of the volcan and its eruptive activity, to better understand... More

I'm a geologist, so I had to go up the volcano. Most bus rides and tours are complicated and they leave you little time at the top. Let's leave it at that. Just get there, but find a way to maximize your time at the summit on a very clear day. That means be ready to go at a moment's... More

My fiancé and I booked this trip which we would thoroughly recommend. We started by being picked up by a coach driving an hour or so to the Vineyard Cantina de vesuvio where we all stopped for a comfort break, then swapped into 4x4s which whipped us up to great hights in no time at all. The steep walk up... More

Mount Vesuvius- the famous volcano that wiped out the city of Pompeii in 79 A.D. It could be seen miles away via the train or at the ancient archaeological site of Pompeii. Tours are offered to visit and hike. If another eruption were to take place today, the city has an evacuation plan in placed.

No I did not climb it! I was perfectly happy to see this mass killer from a reasonable distance. It still rumbles away and whiffs of smoke can bee seen. But whether you see it from Napoli or Pompeii it is striking and one of the great sights of the world.

Its a hard climb from the car park, but well worth it, there are stop points along the way to take a rest and buy water, but be aware you are up a mountain and the weather can change quite quickly
