Misinformation from guide. Bad weather did not help, We were lift at base of the climb, in a poor shop/cafe, while we waited for the climbers return.We should have been left at a better hotel/restaurant. One needs good boots, a stick and warm clothing

Mount Vesuvius- the famous volcano that wiped out the city of Pompeii in 79 A.D. It could be seen miles away via the train or at the ancient archaeological site of Pompeii. Tours are offered to visit and hike. If another eruption were to take place today, the city has an evacuation plan in placed.

No I did not climb it! I was perfectly happy to see this mass killer from a reasonable distance. It still rumbles away and whiffs of smoke can bee seen. But whether you see it from Napoli or Pompeii it is striking and one of the great sights of the world.

Its a hard climb from the car park, but well worth it, there are stop points along the way to take a rest and buy water, but be aware you are up a mountain and the weather can change quite quickly
