just sitting down at the fountain and watch people walking by. It's a relaxing, beautiful square surrounded by amazing buildings.Few beggars and some people who try to sell sunglasses, but it's not uncomfortable. (this is much worse in Firenze and Rome).

This beautiful Piazza is totally ruined by the flying, flea infested vermin. The stunning buildings, the lovely cafe's are covered in bird droppings, the birds are swooping over the café tables, pecking at your feet and dropping crap in your latte. YUK!

Apologies but have seen better. May have more atmosphere this week (of June 10th) when the stage `lights up`. Tourist Info office is in Piazza Maggiore, lady who was reluctant to advise us should never be in that job.

During our stay we sat in Piazza Maggiore many times, but there are no benches. You either have to sit on stone steps or invest in an espresso or glass of something cold we mainly chose the latter. It's a perfect place for looking at the architecture and statues and for people watching. We were there on Republic day so... More

We were only in Bologna for one day, but really wished that we had stayed longer. What a lovely city! The beautiful porticos surrounding the piazza make for a lovely walk- don't miss the courtyard for the Library ( dating back to the 12th century). Fantastic place for a walk in fine weather and the porticos make it possible even... More

Bologna is centered around it-architecture marvelous, but the life of the city takes place there.Rallies, etc. Surprisingly few cafes on the square, but a wonderful place to people watch. Duomo under construction, but open.

Absolutely fabulous! There is a Tourist Information Office right in the square. Definitely opt for the 20E museum pass! It includes a walking tour (worth 13E) and all museum admissions. The TI also found our hotel for us and they speak English!

Going to Bologna, you just cannot miss a trip to Piazza Maggiore. It is the place to be. Lovely Building and a great Cathedral. Pity that you cannot take photos inside. But you have a great time in the piazza sipping capuccino or a lovely gelato, the Italian way. Do visit the piazza also at night. Pure Magic !!! Recommended.

Lots of street entertainers, lively music and atmosphere. Streets around are closed during the weekend so shopping is great. Grab an icecream, sit and pit and let the world go past...
