The time I went there...it was so crowded with mass goers. It was Easter Sunday after all and Easter Mass was ongoing. I didn't even get inside as crowd is spilling outside of the church already. Nevertheless, it's worthwhile to see it and the surrounding blooming tulips PLUS view of Florence from up here is FANTASTIC!

We spent two days in Florence and this was my favourite place there. We walked to San Miniato Al Monte from the Bardini Gardens via the old city wall, but you can easily get there by following the signs on the other side of the Ponte Vecchio to Piazzale Michaelangelo. However, make sure you go a bit further along the... More

It is quite a walk up lots of steps to this church and in the heat it can be tiring but once at the top it is well worth it, the church is absolutely beautiful and the view breathtaking. We also wandered round the churchyard which was full of very ornate tombs. Defenitly worth the hike!

I had read several reviews on this Basilica and wanted desperately to go when the Monks sing. I made it just in time to hear the end of the songs. I'm not a religious person but spiritual. There is something about climbing the hundreds of steps to see the Basilica and hear the Monks. If you go please be respectful... More

an old church with a grave yard for fallen soldiers nearby.....church is nice but there is nothing much else to warrant a dodgy climb!

We went up in the no 12 bus from Santa Maria Novella and walked down. Worth it for the view. Delightful church with some interestng features, including apse mosaic. Can pay a couple of euros to get light and good description of mosaic detail, but then light goes out before you can get a good look at it! Interesting cemetery.

it s not really about visiting the church but more about the area around it and the amazing views of Florence you get at this location. The best time to hike up is around 2 hours before sunset. we stayed there through sunset. There was a person singing and playing music and many people just hanging out and drinking beer.... More

This place was fascinating, beautiful, and the views were the best! We went into the church and someone was playing the pipe organ... creepy, but astounding. Photo opportunities at every turn. Don't miss this place!

While the steps look a bit intimidating, there are not nearly as many as in some of the other sites throughout Florence. It is definitely worth the extra exercise to get a great view of the city.
