Very pleasant and not too strenuous walk up from the town and excellent views from the castle and lookout tower, accessed by an interesting long tunnel corridor.

It was worth the walk up the hill - it was a great place to explore and beautiful views of the surrounding area.

This Castle has the most stunning views of Assisi and the countryside. The best time to go is before sunset so you can get a good view to see the stars come out

On a busy day down in the town, we went up to the castle. Fantastic choice, views all around, climbed up to the top - also the two towers flanking the long wall. Next time will bring a small picnic / snack

By the time we got to this site it was very late afternoon. It was dark and the venue was closed. However it is very well lit up at night and looked magnificent in the lights. Also the view below at night time with all the town lights below is worth the hike up there. Besides, it burns off some... More

After visiting the beautiful churches and streets of Assisi, kids can be a bit tired and perhaps (let's admit it) a bit bored. So from the square in fron of Santa Chiara, we pointed the Rocca and proposed to visit it. When they saw it at the top of the hill where Assisi is built, the first reaction was: "Up... More

Every time I am in Assisi, I try to visit the Rocca Maggiore. The views from the tower are unbeatable - just incredible! You can see the entirety of Assisi, and 360 degree views of the land around the mountain. You have to climb stairs and enter into dark passageways to get there, so those who are claustrophobic should beware.... More

We made it up the spiral steps just for the view and it's worth it. Other than that the place looks deserted. Note that the steps up to the top can be quite a challenge for some but it is the experience that matters. Spectacular view awaits you. If you are planning of walking back to Assisi town centre from... More

This was an amazing journey. I went early in the morning and i recommend you do also-to beat any crowds. I recorded myself walking along the fortress walls (they are enclosed with occasional openings in the walls (lights) and then after walking on and on and on you go up to the roof top for an awesome view of Umbria!... Walking up to this place you can see how powerful the area was - spiritually powerful that is. Every thing is peaceful here, everything feels your heart with a joy I sometimes find hard to believe. Everything is alive.
