I love the Canals in the city... Amazing at night and fantastic for photography. they give the city special character and soul !
Centrally located with easy access to hotels, transport and entertainment. Not too noisy although the footpaths are narrow and uneven in some parts.
I honestly think that Amsterdam is better than Venice in the Canal battle. Venice has the charm but Amsterdam to me has more beauty about it.
There are three main canals in Amsterdam - this one is in the middle and is absolutely beautiful. The scenery is gorgeous and interesting. Definitely take a walk down it or rent bikes and tour it.
A beautiful canal, if you get a ticket for the "Hop on hop off" service you can gat around all the main canals. It's a different view from the water.
Walked about this canal area sightseeing and enjoyed the views of water activities and street scene. It is a pretty area with lots of historic buildings along the canal as well as shops and restaurants. You just need to walk and enjoy the scene. This is in a way, the middle of the three canals that circuit Amsterdam. It was was perhaps the most interesting because there seemed to be fewer tour boats than the other canals, and seemingly more. Took the tour guided boat which came part of the 48hr I Amsterdam city card, tour took about an hour with commentary on all the famous places along the route
We bought the canal 'hop on hop off' ticket. There was 4 routes available each stopping at many of the well know sights. We did the red, green and blue routes.
