Easily one of the highlights of my visit to Lisbon, recommended by a local friend who was lucky enought to get married there.
As others have said, very rich altars. In addition to the gold and silver plated altars, there are distinctive altars of reliquaries at the front, male saints on the one side, female on the other. The museum...

If you are fond of religious places, architecture and culture, this is an amazing place. When in Lisbon, you must visit it. On the outside it is like any other church but on the inside there are rich altars of gold and beautiful statues and paintings.
Best architectural site in Lisbon. Really beautiful. A must see. Only need 45 mins for it but its worth the entry fee just to sit on the steps and look up
I have been to many churches, everywhere. This one is STUNNING. It is small, and the outside of the church is very modest, but wait until you get inside. The details, the Gold, the lapis lazuli, the unique wood ceiling, it is just a pleasure to enjoy. I would definitely like to visit the Igreja de Sao Roque again.
One of the finedt churches in Lisbon. In fact, we have many but few deserve a mention. Blame the earthquake in 1755 for it. This one is also known by its fine religious artifacts.

we visited by chance, and were not disappointed. The chapel built, then dismantled and transported over from Rome is amazing (though it does beg the question why?? apart from the Pope's blessing). Even more fascinating are the religious ossuaries flanking the main altar- very macabre.
We were so lucky to be given a tour by Susie Pereira a guide at the museum who was incredibly well-informed and a terrific communicator. The church is high- baroque and you need to have a taste for the decorated to appreciate it fully! The museum has some real high spots such as the renaissance painting cycle of the life...

The painted wood ceiling is unique and beautiful and the chapels lining both sides of the nave are spectacular. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit there and would go...
