What seemed an endless collection of baskets on one floor, but really interesting artifacts covering three floors. Much of it was barely antique, and all the more interesting because you could really imagine some of the things being used today. If you are in the area, it is well worth popping in. Also a great little cafenion in the nearby... More

This is a quuirky but wonderful little museum. Every exhibit is labelled with loads of detail. The exhibits cover the culture of Crete with faming and agricultaral references and some historical pieces related to the German occupation during World War ll. Lots of baskets. I didn't know that there was such a variation in the making of baskets! It is... More

A small museum in Vori, 2 kms from the archeological site of Phaistos. It presents the daily life of Crete organized by theme: agriculture, fishing, weaving, etc., in a lovely old house. It takes about 45 minutes to go through the museum. The museum has received awards for the quality of its exhibitions.

This little museum, in Vori - a pretty, traditinal village near Gourtys & Faistos - really 'punches above its' weight'. it's full of traditional day-to-day objects such as baskets, farming implements, fabrics etc which depict everyday life in Crete over the last couple of hundred years. AND, unusually, it's very well displayed & perfectly titled, with clear descriptions in Greek... More

A place overlooked by many tourist and tour operators is the Ethnological Museum of Vori in the Mesara, just 2 Km. from Faistos Archeaological Site. The awarded museum has a fine collection of hundreds of atributes, tools, herbs, cooking stuff etc. on show in modern vitrines with discriptions. If you are on the search of Cretan social life and work,... More

This small outstanding museum is off the beaten track and likely to be missed by busloads of tourists. It is worthy of a visit. Well-marked and labeled in English and in Greek, the collected items give a comprehensive picture of traditional life in Crete, focusing on all aspects of life there: food harvesting and preparation, local herbs, agricultural tools, weaving,... It may be situated in a small village next to Festos:Vori, howewer its exhibition can be described as high standard. this is the reason i suppose why it has earned a European Award. It demonstrates different human activities in sections ex. food, architecture, handicrafts, customs and tranditions etc which helps the visitor understand the use and meaning of the exhibits....
