the walk to and from this Sea Castle is invigorating - plenty of time (45 minutes?) to admire the blue-green Aegean and breathe deeply

Go there during the day and then come back for your night walk! And go all the way down the dock until the lighthouse! Most of the residents of Heraklio do that every night! A very nice promenade!

My daughter and I visited the Venetian Fort in September 2008. The admission was not much, maybe a couple of euros; the tour was self-guided. The scenery from outside and atop the fort is amazing. The deep blue water of the Aegean is to the west, the blue-green of Heraklion Harbor to the east; the water divided by the roadway...
