but great to look at. The reason why quite a lot of stone is gone is that after the castle/fortress was abandoned, people living around would take the stone to build their own houses. It is free of charge. There are boards all around telling you the history, which room you are in etc. You should also add a small... More

Bornholm is a very quaint little island with small villages doted over its rolling hills. Hammershus is really the only large historical site to see on the island. We went on a sunny day and the views were spectacular. You only need about an hour to see the grounds but if you have a lunch, it would be a nice... More

What a breathtaking location! Walked from Allinge/Sandvig and enjoyed the walk as much as I enjoyed visiting the ruins. After a long walk around the hill and among the ruins I followed the example of other tourists and took a nap in the field nearby. The only disappointing fact about it is that only Danish descriptions of the ruins are... More

Every bit as great as I remember it as a kid. Stay nearby in Sandvig-Allinge or Hammerhavn so you can visit the ruins at sunset after the tour buses leave- great 3 hour hike around the bluff to the ruins and back again by the lake. The rugged beauty of Bornholm and its people remind me of an older scandanavia,... More

Hammershus is apparently the largest middle age castle in Northern Europe; a most see if you visit Bornholm. It played a significant role for the island for some 500 years. Today you can see the leftovers and get an impression of what was there once upon a time. We were luck to meet a "story teller" on our way around... More

castle ruins. nice view of the sea. If I look for it you will find old engravings on the walls. More rock drawings can be found in other parts of the island. Next to it is a small pond. In warm weather, people on around the ruins lie on blankets and have a relax.

Nice place to go, alone or with kids. Nice view from the site and neatly organized with storyboards explaining the use of the different buildings. No entry fee! Cafe and toilets near the free p-site.

A trip into medieval times. For a full day trip combine with a walk around Hammerknuden and why not take a dip into the Opal lake? Bring something to eat and drink. Not much service around.
