Fell in here in our quest to get out of the wind. Great open light filled building. Loved the older collections depicting 1800's Iceland. Wish they would add the exact locations. Lovely gift shop. Some items not seen elsewhere. If you like art cards, this is the place!

I often like a bit of modern art but found this ridiculous. A large space is occupied by an exhibition of 3 accidental paint spots on the floor and left me scratching my head. Another large space is devoted to the building of 'broken circle/spiral mound' which is basically a garden installation. There was a lengthy film (which I couldn't... More

We went here on a monday when a lot of things are closed. The entry fee gets you into all three museums which are unfortunately spread all over town. We only went to Hafnarhús by the waterfront which houses modern art because it was close to icelandic fish and chips. The temporary installations are pretty lame and the graphic art... More

Saw documentary piece on a quarry artwork/ movie. An entire gallery of the works of Erro a grafic artist. And an odd modern art installation about three splatters of paint. Architecture of building was calming. We took our time here and only needed one hour. If you buy entrance to this building, you can go to two others in town.... More

Centrally located, with several fascinating exhibits. I tend to get exhausted at huge museums, so this was the right scale for me. Loved the building as well.

Don't waste your time in my opinion. This museum had 4-5 exhibits and all were rather lame. The artists were not of my taste.

Filled with colourful pop-art pieces and a cafe overlooking the harbour for your troubles. Ticket entry here gets you into 2 others in Reykjavik. Kids welcome.

I always check out art museums is bigger cities. It's a good way to get a bit closer to the country's culture.

Doesn't open till 11 am in the winter (doesn't get light till 11:30am). You also need to pay now 1000KR. Not sure it was worth it to be honest, but if you need to get out of the rain for a while. Sure.

Visited between major exhibitions, so there were only a couple of print shows up, which were nicely installed. Fabulous building, brilliant use of space, and a great cafe. The cafe workers took care to give us detailed directions to our next stop. And the museum is wheelchair--accessible.
