If you have any interest in Icelandic origins, religion. development and culture this is a MUST VISIT. The museum opened at 10.00am and I was told there was a free guided tour starting at 11.00am. So I wandered about the museum on my own. My travelling experience has taught me to start on the top floor of any museum and...

There was a superbly mounted exhibition of silver and the information was very well displayed. There is space enough to stand back and really look. What's to dislike??
chronological accounts of life in Iceland from my perspectives and wonderful artifacts to explain Viking heritage
Very well done, interesting exhibits. I liked the freely available folding seats you could carry around with you, my feel were already sore from walking around the city all day.
I have seen a few museums whille traveling in Scandinavian countries but I liked the Islandic National Museum the most. The text was very clear and intersting and it makes it easy for the visitor to remember most of it as you get alone.
Also to be found in each floor an interactive interface that deals with importand issues such as...

Well worth a visit for anyone who wants to know more about how the Icelandic nation has developed since it was initially colonised. Good value for money, and the lockers and cloakroom (free to use) are a very nice and practical touch.

There were remarkable historical artifacts, like a suit of armor, and lovely stained glass windows. Everyone was very pleasant, very helpful. We also were able ot walk to the museum from our hotel, which was...

This was good, and there were lots to look at. I wouldn't go again because although it was very informative, there was just something missing. Perhaps we aren't cultured enough to appreciate it, but we didn't enjoy it as much as other museums we have visited before. Don't stress yourself out to get there if you don't have time.
A modern well laid out museum that gave a good history of the island and first inhabitants- it was easy to walk to from the Radisson blue hotel
