A great spot to view Tromso and have a bit of an adventurous walk around the top. We came in June and there was still Ice/Snow on some areas. Also wear warm clothes because when that wind picks up! Well worth it.

The cable car is closed because the cable was damaged during maintenance. Still you can climb by foot, about 1 hour of climbing to the cabin. The climbing route starts directly under the cables. Sometimes the trail is icy and quite steep so have at least good shoes. Snow is also present for half of the year, but the view...

Hopefully I can save a few people the effort of getting to the cable car site and realising it was closed. There is nothing to say its closed before you get there. From what I can make out in the sign, it closed on the 8th October and has no re-opening date. Really disappointing :(
The views from the mountain top are incredible. Western and Northern Norway offer an assortment of awesome views-- and this one is one of the best! Great view of Tromso.
One warning - the tourist map shows that the local bus route ends at the cable car - it doesn't, it continues on a loop. The entry to the cable car is not obvious from the bus, and we over-shot and had to walk back. Keep your eyes open, or ask the bus driver to tell...

Seriously, just go up there and see for yourself. It's amazing =) We where super lucky and got great weather, and got to see the city in the sun, while eating ice cream dressed only in t-shirts. The weather was much warmer up there than down in the city center!
Took bus no. 26 in front of Peppe's Pizza near Torget (The Main Square) to the cable car station.
In mid Mar it was still cold and covered in snow. A beautiful winter scenery. The view was fantastic as it was a clear day, could see the Arctic Cathedral, the bridge, Tromsø town with a backdrop of snow covered mountains....

Great for viewing the Midnight Sun. Cable cars run until 01:00 during times when the sun doesn't set. You can even get a beer in the restaurant / bar at the top. Highly recommended.
