We organised a private visit for a for group of 50 mixed French and English adults. A warm welcome awaited us and, after a good cup of coffee extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic guides showed us round this beautiful home - still lived in by the owners, Lord and Lady Saye and Sele. It is a beautiful house, set in glorious... More

A very worth while trip to this castle and you wont be disappointed if you like looking round castles. I has a lot on offer and the rooms are all noteworthy with advisers in each room. All the paintings on the wall have a description of the artist and who they are. It was raining when we went and so... More

Pouring with rain when we arrived & it is a short walk from the car park to the castle. Greeted by a lovely lady & went straight through. Whilst looking in the first room there were a hungarian family that thought it was ok to take the swords off the walls, try to open trunks and sit on chairs that... More

As a young teenager, I'd been on a Scout camp here and always said I'd go back to see the castle itself one day. I went with a friend and spent a pleasant couple of hours looking round at the lovely building. It has the feel of a family home rather than a museum andIi loved the irregular layout and... More

A very interesting place to visit. I believe this to be still privately owned. The building itself is refreshingly original and what modernisation that couldn't be avoided such as electrical wiring/sockets etc has been very tastefully done. There are some breath taking stained glass windows in various locations within the house and adjoining church. Some of the ceilings in the... More

We arrived at 1.15 so a little earlier than their opening time at 2, but the staff were already directing cars on to the car park and welcoming visitors into the castle generously early. Walking into the castle, we were worried that there was a sign up saying "sorry no card payments" but the staff were super friendly at arranging... More

This was an out-of-season trip - there were nine of us and they opened the castle up specially. Our guide was delightful and charming, with a great sense of humour. The house is beautiful and fascinating, and we loved the fact that it's clearly a loved, lived-in home, not a museum. It's full of delightful personal touches and brilliant modern... More

Roam the grounds freely, visiting nearby church with the Saye & Sele family crests displayed inside. Great place for a family picnic. Castle and gardens open for a small fee. Also has a small tearoom I believed run by Lady Saye & Sele. One of the guides to the house is his Lordship himself, although he tries not to let... More

A hidden gem; good history, well presented. Enjoy the views from the roof as well as the gardens. Worth checking to see the limited opening dates.
