Visited briefly ... All too briefly since it closed at noon. Although the exterior facade is over-the-top baroque (beautiful nonetheless) the interior is much more restrained. The moorish ceiling with a painting of the Holy Trinity alone is worth the visit.

A must see in Lecce. The basilica is beautiful. Great baroque architecture. I liked it better than the Duomo.

The front of the church is covered with carved statues. Also the duomo - and I recommend to go to the crypt of the duomo as there are many such examples of the baroque of Lecce. The town is very nice, many bookshops, palazzi, restaurants, art galleries. I could live there happily!

This is an amazing church - all the Lecce churches have a good hold on Mother Earth but Santa Croce is stonily beautiful, quite sombre, with a high nave that augments the atmosphere. The exterior is currently under resotration but you still have a good view of the gargoyles, which are gorgeous, and the famous rose window. Also beautiful at... More

Baroque in Lecce is so different from that you find anywhere else in Italy. Minute ornamentation and sculpture fill every space available and sometimes it can be very overbearing. I think it was influenced by Spanish Baroque.

If this structure was a slide in an art history class, you wouldn't fall asleep! Boisterous and technically amazing, with animals real and imagined, homage to different crafts, cherubs, vegetation, and much, much more. When we visited the front was covered in scaffolding, but it was still accessible.

This is a do not miss visit when in Lecce.Makes you understand the place better and take time to read the facade slowly as it is rather overwhelming

It was a beautiful church that you should go in if Staying in Lecce. I would not drive there for that only but if you visit the churches and walk through the town and go get Pizza at Scissors you can make an very wonderful day.

You could spend hours just looking at all of different scenes on the magnificent baroque facade. The building is just beautiful- especially against the blue sky of Lecce! But be sure to step inside and see all of the wonderful statues made from paper mache. It is really a site not to be missed!

It was an average visit. Nothing special. We have been to much nicer sites in Italy. Unfortunately we had a very excitable guide who did not make the visit very interesting.
