I went on this when I was 11 and had fantastic memories of it. Last week went again with my husband and 11 year old son. The trip along the beach had spectacular scenery both directions with views out to open sea on one side and the cliffs with interesting geology and obvious fault lines from massive earth quakes on... Second time I've done this now - first time was about 6 years ago - and it was great going on the tractors again, this time with my young family. The kids loved it and even learnt a bit about the geology and gannets. They did moan a bit on the walk up to the gannet colony as it is... More

This trip was recommended to me by almost everyone local I had spoken to, so I booked in for a Sunday trip in late autumn. A tractor tour may not sound appealing, but it was the perfect way to see the cliffs, the beach and the gannets! The gannet colony was 9km along the beach on the Cape Kidnappers peninsula,... More

This tour was the highlight of our month long vacation in New Zealand. It was fun and also informative. Colin, our tractor driver/guide, gave us so much information about the geology of the cliffs as we travleled along the beach (and sometimes in the water). Not only was he knowledgeable about geology but also the gannets. Th Black Reef Colony... More

We had been told by friends and family not to miss this trip on the tractor traillers and we were so pleased we went. The ride along the beach to the cape is great fun with the driver deliberately getting you wet from time to time. He really knew his stuff about the geology and wildlife. The rock strata and... More

I've been in Napier since 2005 and never made the time to visit the Gannet Colony at Cape Kidnappers. That is so often the case with attractions on your doorstep. I went this week. I would have no hesitation now in taking friends and visitors on this wonderful experience. The guys who drove the tractors were knowledgeable and interesting about... More

We came to Havelock North specifically to visit the Cape Kidnapper's gannet colony. The early tide didn't allow for hiking that day so we booked a tractor tour. Just the best thing, and well worth the NZD42, especially given that it turned out to be wet and cold and blowing. Our very knowledgeable guide filled us in on the geomorphology... More

This tractor trip is a must for anyone interested in geology and bird life. It was well worth getting up at 6 m to get to Clifton in time for our tractor trip along the beach and walk up to the main gannet colonies. Colin our driver was a hoot as well as being very knowledgeable and all in the... More

This is a great attraction! Visit a Gannet bird colony via tractor. Very knowledgable tractor drivers who explain seismology, ornithology and geology on a tractors ride to the gannet colony. You ride on trailers pulled by able tractors on a 4 hour trek along coastal bluffs. Schedule changes daily...have to go at low tide. Three things to remember...if 65 or... More

Great and well organized trip. The explanation during the trip was excellent and very motivating. It was not even the visit to the gannets that was inspiring but also the cliffs and the trips with the tractor.
