Very expensive I thought but if the weather is good a picnic in the grounds is a must, the grounds are beautiful, a lengthy walk all the way round though.

The house was not very attractive and, as visits were not timed, the house had far too many people going around in at one time. The gardens were not that well maintained and were a bit kitch for my taste. In addition, once again, although the gardens are very large, far too many people were let in at one time.

Visited the house and gardens on 6th of May (May day bank holiday) and even though there were masses of people, waiting and getting meals etc was not so bad as might be expected given the beautiful day it was. A super day out in what is one of the National Trusts top visited sites. It's about a 2hr drive from London (that makes my rule for a day trip) and in good/fair weather is just a wonderful gardens and house to see. Have been to this national trust site three times now in as many years, and during different seasons. The gardens are delightful, plenty to see and different experiences. Loved the gardens, could walk for hours. Just a pity there were so many badly behaved kids in the house when we went round, we have decided to go again on a weekday in term time!!
