We visited this pub on a number of occassions for an atmospheric drink in the evenings, whilst staying in Oughterard. We always commented on how the food looked & smelt good but thought it was a bit too pricey!! One evening we were stuck for food & it was getting quite late so we decided to eat here & only... More

We stayed in the area for a week and returned to this bar on four different occasions. They have wifi so we were able to check up on our emails with a Guiness. Had dinner here twice and found the food to be quite good. The owner was especially kind to us going out of his way to arrange some... More

The pub has a classical irish style. Staff is kind and food is of medium quality. I tasted salmon and it was well cooked and delicious, potatoes was not well cooked. Prices are quite high, I hope they made a mistake with the bill.. it is not possible to pay a bottle of water (1lt.) 5 euro. They said that... More

The food was amongst the best, but the service could use some refining. We could hardly get a smile from the staff and the manager was so stressed that he had his staff under pressure and thus the service was poor.

Breathnachs bar made our trip! we discovered it on our first day and ate there almost every night thereafter. Great fare for Meat eaters and vegetarians alike. Some of our favorites included: Roast Turkey, Cod, Scollops, vegetable soup...and bonaffe pie! you must try bonaffe pie! We are already concocting plans to return to Ireland, and the thought of the Breathnachs... More

We stayed in Oughterard and used it as a base for traveling throughout Conemara County. We found Breathnach's Tavern to be the best choice of all the pubs in town for food, drink and friendly conversation. We ended up going there 3 of the 5 nights we were in town. Chatted with the owner Dermond, who made us feel welcome... More

Arrived on a sunday - all the waitresses breezed out of the restaurant and left us sitting twiddling our thumbs for five minutes - had to find the menus ourselves. Food was ok - presentation leaves a lot to be desired - chips were just flung on top of everything else. I was amazed to see groups of four and... More

My wife and I recently spent two weeks touring Connemara based in Oughterard and Breathnachs became our favorite pub in town. We enjoyed the local traditional Irish music band, Ardvana, twice on Saturday night and had a great time watching World Cup soccer while sharing a pint with many of the locals. It has a great old Irish pub atmosphere.... More
