We had a wonderful time here during the school holidays. Make sure to be here by 2 pm to watch the falcon show and listen to the very informational lecture. We were glad to be able to hold such wonderful creatures on our hands (w/a glove). Bring a good camera, sunblock and hat on a sunny day. AAA+++ experience :)

We spent a wonderful few hours at Wingspan, as they call this place. The hour-long flying demo at 2pm was wonderful. I've seen several raptor flight demos, but this one was unusual for the intimacy (a dozen of us spread over 5 comfortable benches), and the trainer's description of what their bird was actually doing--as we watched them do it.... We arrived too early to watch the birds in flight, but the staff member we dealt with was very informative. Not too much to see at the time we went so suggest going at 2pm

This place exceeded my expectations. I learned so much about the NZ Falcons. There were several falcons and owls to visit which each had it's story of how it found it's way to the Wingspan facility. There was an informative demonstration of how the falcons are trained to hunt along with an informative talk about all aspects of the NZ... More

Simply one of the best attractions around. The staff really know their stuff and the enthusiasm and passion for these birds is so genuine. It never feels "Touristy" or that the birds are being expoilted and its a real thrill if you get to briefly hold one. The aerobatics displayed by the falcons is awesome and you learn so much... More

This place is fabulous! A great way to see what these wonderful people are doing to help our wildlife. The ladies who gave us a demonstration on the birds were wonderful public speakers and watching the birds was a real treat. Overall Fantastic!

We joked about how we would have to take pictures if they let falcons perch on our arms, but never expected that would be a possibility. The pictures with the sheer joy on my daughter's face as Ozzy sits on her arm might be my favorite photos from the whole trip. Learning about the dedication required to train falcons to... More

Visited Wingspan with a group of 33 seniors who all enjoyed this unique attraction. The people who are working with these birds of prey are so very passionate & dedicated to their work they deserve a medal for trying to save these birds from extinction. The flying display (at 2.0pm each day) of the NZ Falcons was great - several... More

I only had one day in Rotarua so decided to visit Wingspan and was so pleased even after having to walk to get there. It wasn't like visiting another tourist attraction. This was a real facility working hard to have an impact on the decreasing numbers of NZ Falcons. Amazing people who are passionate about what they do. The birds... More

Would definitely recommend this, and also 200 metres up the road is a free walk around a trout hatchery. But Wingspan is a great activity to do with all family members, no matter what age. People get the opportunity to put the leather glove on and have a falcon land on their hand. It was really amazing and great to... More
