Did you know that peacocks sleep on trees? If you visit Udawalawe national park early in the morning you will see hundreds of peacocks still up on the trees. Of course, Sri Lankan elephants, buffaloes, millions of birds, crocs, plenty of wild lief in the park. Good safari guides will show you birds hidden in the trees and bushes and... More

We visited Udawalawe in April 2012 after hearing that it is more chilled out than Yala, and easier to see animals. We were not disappointed- lots of elephants up fairly close, monkeys, crocs, buffalo, eagles and tonnes of birdlife. We had our own jeep and guide and thoroughly enjoyed the day. For most of the time it felt like we... More

Nice place to see wild animals in their natural habitats .There are lots of wild elephants (around 800) and the park is approximately 86000 acres in size. There are lots of different birds , peacocks , alligators . You 'll have to go to the park earl in the morning to see more animals , around 5.30 or 6 in... More

We went to see feeding time at the Transit Home and were appalled at the treatment of the elephants by the handlers. They carry big sticks and literally beat the elephants until they scream. As it was a Sunday we could only find a Veterinary Intern to complain to. He stated that they have to beat the elephants to make... More

It is a real nice trip, but I have seen wild elephant before. We likes it very much, but wont go back. We also did go to the elephan orphanagehome, no so interesting. The most fun was all the schoolkids, that never have seen a tourist before. We took a dattrip from Galle. More

This park is not like the game reserves in Africa. Mostly elephants and birds. There were people coming to camp for a few nights but a few hours was enough. The jeep safari was good although when wet which it was felt a bit dangerous at times More

If you love Asian Elephants, this is the place to visit. We only went on a 3-hour afternoon safari, but it will be experience that we will remember fondly for the rest of our lives. We saw around 100 elephants and several were so close to our truck that we could have reached out and touched them. At one point... More

The bad: getting in is a serious hassle: papers and passports and high fees and so many minutes at the crack of dawn. My guide was cold, cranky, and humorless and I didn't get to pick him or reject him. Scenery is boring. The good: elephants. Tons and tons of elephants just walking around. That's what we came for. That's... More

Be aware that this is run by the government and prices are fixed at a very high rate for tourists, this said we visited Yala,Horton Plains and here and this was head and shoulders above the others. The wildlife was stunning without the crowds of Yala. More Elephants than we had ever seen before and a knowledgable guide. Not to... More

The park is arguably one of the best places to see elephant. In the dry months population in the park can rise to the point that over 250 can be visible on a day. Th park can be viewed in one game drive but a full day is recomended. Please note that if u leave the park for a meal,... More
