There are very few beaches in Perth suitable for small children in all weather, because most of the beaches are surfing beaches, often with large waves, and in fact they can be dangerous for people who are not aware of rips etc. Mettam's pool is not a pool as such, but a beach sheltered by rocks and reefs, that make...

Excellent snorkelling spot, good beach and swimming if you don't want to snorkel. Indian Ocean is so clear.
You have a choice of here, or South groin of Cottesloe if you want to avoid the dumping surf of the west coast. Difference is here, there is nothing except ramp to the beach and shower/toilet facilities. peaceful, no shops or cafes or bogans.
There are not many good places -that I know about anyway- to snorkell in Perth (Rottnest island has some very good spots). Mettam's pool is one of the rockier beaches in Perth (reminds me of Sydney's beachside suburbs- if you are tired of endless golden sands- go here) and it does have some potential snorkelling
My darling Mum lived 5 houses from Mettam's Pool and just loved her daily swims. Clean, clear water and sand and a lovely place for families.
There are lots of rocks- can be dangerous, when a foot is cut. There is a lot of seaweed, when in season. Small swimming are, which is quite sheltered.
We swam at Mettam's pool on a number of mornings on our recent visit to Perth. The offshore reef protects the pool from the rolling waves which can be very strong along the coast.Everyone we met were very pleasant and helpful. Changing area and showers available.
Top tip: wear crocs/sandals as there are some sharp rocks as you get in...

Mettams pool is a gem so close to the city and suburbs. We love snorkelling there as the water is really clear. There is a large range of fishes to look at. Protected by the reef, the water is normally fairly calm especially in the morning. Next to Mettams pool is a wave break popular with local surfers.
Gorgeous clear water, a little safe beach with just a small wave. Perfect for the old and the young.
