Parnell is really close to Auckland city. Take a walk here and visit one of the nice cafes along Parnell Rd.

If shopping is your purpose, this is an interesting place to visit, especially with another like-minded friend. I especially enjoyed visiting the cathedral and the farmers' market.

Parnell is pretty "hip" as a place. Old buildings, well preserved. Has plenty of space and charm to walk-around. Some of the better restos of Sydney are around (try the Blue Elephant and Oh Calcutta) plus the Auckland Museum is a 15' walk from here. More and more people have flocked back to Parnell since my last visit. The Irish Pub has changed hands and Parnell should see another great night spot opening shortly. I visited this area of Aukland for a little while one evening when we enjoyed a some great Indian meal with some very kind New Zealanders.

This area is way over-rated. Someplaces report it as an "up market" area. We found it rather grubby in all respects. Your time can be better spent at other venues in and around Auckland.

This is another area, mostly on one street where one can walk, eat in cafes through to Auckland better fine dining restaurant Antoine's. There are a number of dealer galleries and some of the best craft and object shops.

Yesterday Friday 11 January I went back to Parnell to have another look, Plenty of Cafes and Pubs but as a tourist village the service needs to be so much better. A historic area of Auckland, revamped. Some very good shops for gift shopping to take home. A full collection of restaurants and cafes of many ethnicities. But take your walking shoes.
