We visited here in the middle of summer when some of the local teenage boys were jumping off into the water below. It pays to have local knowledge of the water level as its definitely NOT for the novice or faint hearted. Further up the river, the teenage girls were having a far more sadate time cooling off in the... More

Depending on how much time you have, you can walk from the Waitangi Treaty grounds or drive there. Fast flowing and a lovely sight in the sun. There are plenty of short walks in the area to enjoy the surroundings.

Just a short walk to the falls, and a great look from the top of the falls. great place to sit and reflect.

Part of my mission in NZ is to visit as many waterfalls as possible. Sadly Haruru Falls fall short of some of the beauties I have seen before, and since. Reasonably wide, but not that deep. I chose not to do the walk from the Waitangi Treaty grounds, choosing to drive round instead. I'm very glad I did. I would... More

I think the local council could do some tarting up around the perimeter of the falls. The main view looking at them looks straight into a back-packers house with ugly equipment right down by the river. The bridge is also ugly - could be re-faced with panels or something.

This is a pretty little spot, but the falls are small, worth a quick stop and photo if driving by but not a destination on it's own.

If you like going for a walk, it is worth it! It is a 10km walk, the waterfall is not great, but we enjoyed the walk.

So its a 90 minute walk each way from the start, and another 20-30 minutes if your walking from Paihia, so a long way! It is a nice walk though, not too steep, and you get some nice forest views etc. I don't reckon the falls themselves are that amazing, but I enjoyed the walk.

not far off the road it is well worth a stop to see these falls, quite a volume of water falling and you are able to get up very close to the falls down a small path.

The falls are a little way out of Paihai and can be approached by a circular road that runs out to the falls and then curves back to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds via the local golf club. It is a reasonable fill-in, but not worth a separate visit unless you want to just fill in time (like we did while... More
