Gorgeous place and well worth the stop. Venture into a well self-guided tracks and very informative thermal wonderland. We were the only 2 left on the 'island' (you feel almost like you're arriving at Jurassic Park when it's overcast we thought) and it was a gorgeous afternoon walk. Easy pathways and lovely staff to get you there and back.

loved the ferry trip and the off the beaten track element- not at all crowded Sadly the mudpools were rather dry since NZ was very dry but I don't expect that could be avaoided

My husband and I rolled up here one wet morning not really knowing what to expect. The whole experience was amazing and very good value for money as you could spend as much time as you wanted wandering around looking at the steam jets and bubbling mud pools. The signs and information boards tell you exactly what you need to... More

This is a nice leisurely couple of hours to wander through this park. The volcanic activity is impressive and the silica features created by the hot waters are amazing. We took loads of photos here and really enjoyed it.

Had a fabulous days visit to the Hidden Valley - it was awesome with lots of geothermal activity & geysers. It is well worth the visit here & the staff were very helpful. The café served great food and coffee before we headed over by ferry to the park itself. Lots of walking up and down well maintained timber walkways... More

We visited with 2 kids, 8 and 11. The sort drive from Craters of the moon was well worth it. As usual, beautiful scenery along the way. We arrived to friendly, informative staff and had a much needed lunch and coffee (kids had delish hot chicolates with marshmallows) before heading over the river. Free wifi available too. A short boat... More

A short drive out of town, arriving at a blue lake you can almost immediately board a little ferry boat to across the lake for the walk in the park. Boat driver does not smile. The park is very well organised with secure pathways and good explanatory boards. Easy to do in two hours time at leisure pace. The geyser... More

We visited as part of our NZ Riverjet tour. The cafe/shop is on the opposite side of the river to the thermal area & you are taken across on a small ferry which runs constantly. The thermal area was amazing. There is an excellent walkway through the area . The silica terraces are awesome to see & there's lots of... More

About 25 minutes from Taupo on the road to Hamilton, this is a really interesting thermal area and well worth a visit. The trip starts with an on-demand boat ride across the lake (and a button to call for the return boat ride back across afterwards). The path is fairly new and well maintained. It has around 1000 steps and... More
