Even thou' I live in Taupo I had not been to these hot pools before and it took an overseas visitor to stay to finally pay a visit. What a lovely spot. I don't think its really a kids sort of place, no play area as such, but thats probably why I enjoyed it so much. Spent most of my... More

If coming into taupo from state highway one, just before the Wairakei bridge, there is a sharp turn to the right off the road. It is signposted with a "teapot" showing that there is a cafe along the track. If coming from Taupo, the entrance will be sharp left, just a few meters from the Wairakei bridge Follow the wooded... We had a great time, we've been traveling for six months and took advantage of the welcome, the facilities, the walk and the animals. We stayed for two nights before heading off to the caves in the west and then came back for three days just to chill and feel at home before we headed south. My kids of 7... More

Slightly querky, we stayed here for only one night in our Motorhome. I did feel like the walk should of been free for fee paying guests of the camp ground, and we were surprised to be asked for $20 to walk around the Thermal Garden area, (if you go to a campground with a swimming pool you not charged any... After we arrived here the entrance price was rather stiff, so we looked at the (best) pictures from the park that were posted in the pub. Than we decided that it was even less worth to pay an entrance price. The recently sheered LLama with only hairs on its head was funny, though.

There is no indication of pricing anywhere, perhaps they make it up when you arrive. I was charged $10 for one adult. The cafe owner offered to lend me a thermo-reading device so I could see how hot the water was, but alas there is only one and it was already taken. The walk is unsuitable for anyone with balance... A very nice walk suitable for all ages. We took my parents with us who are not young anymore and they made it without a hitch. Very easy and well equipped walk; the benches are everywhere so no probs if you are getting tired - you can sit and rest a bit. The Inferno Crater is magnificent! There are no... More

Living near Yellowstone NP we have been there many times. There was nothing here that is not bigger and better in YNP. I can understand getting excited about it though, if you've never been elsewhere.

We found this spot quite by accident when looking for somewhere to stay overnight. Driving down a gravel & tree lined road we saw an assortment of animals and a closed cafe. Doug introduced himself and took our details. Although the owner had left, we were still able to book a powered site. We found compared to other sites their... More

We saw such fantastic natural wonders it blew us away. Geysers bubbling mud pools, craters with temperatures of over 150%. We thought we do the short walk but ended up going the whole way and love every moment. not cheep but then nothing is in NZ any more but worth the money
