We visited Te Papa during our trip to Wellington and it easily entertained us for a good couple of hours. There is plenty to see and learn about New Zealand and it's history, and it's free!

staff dislike not welcoming at all, no maps and had to pay to see the good parts everything was up a ramp or stars and elevators wernt working propley
Could spend a whole day there to see the diverse attractions. The 50's show was especially good and well peresented. Cannot believe it is free to visit.
Visitors from Christchurch attending a birthday and christening in Wellington. Decided to take our two year old grandaughter to TE Papa and she loved it. Need to take her again when she is a wee bit older so that she can see and experience the museum through older eyes. Dissapointed that the under 5 experience area was closed too early....

After having heard so many good things about Te Papa museum, I decided to go there during my 2 days, 1 night trip in Wellington. It is huge and very well-made.You can leave your belongings at the entrance of the museum, the visit can be long so I recommend it. Give yourself at least 2 to 3 hours to visit...

The exhibitions are interesting and interactive and Te Papa tells the great story behind New Zealands history!
This place is amazing. If we lived in Wellington, we would become members so we could visit often, and focus on one part of the museum each time. This is easily a day's adventure. The natural and cultural history of New Zealand, art, geology, geography, flora, fauna - if you can imagine it, it is probably in this museum. Outstanding.
A great place to spend a rainy day in Wellington. It has 6 floors and a wide variety of themes to keep you busy for hours. The collosal squid and geology sections were particularly good with great coffee in the Espresso cafe. Nice views from the 6th floor.
Learn all about New Zealand and its Maori traditions and history. Lovely museum to take the whole family and enjoy a nice day out.
Recent comments have said that Te Papa was a "dumbed-down" museum, and after our second visit in 4 years, I agree. There are more wide flights of stairs, and vast open spaces than are necessary and the exhibits seem secondary thoughts. The exhibit on Uniforms was interesting, but too brief.
