Came with a mate to ride the trails at Derby. Crew in derby at Vertigo were excellent - hired some great bikes and arranged for 2 days of shuttles. Team very helpful and knowledgeable and passionate about area. Trails were spectacular- honestly the best I have ever ridden. We will be back !

We hired x 2 Stumpjumper dual suspension bikes from Buck and Jude Gibson at Vertigo MTB hire in Derby.

The bikes are top notch. Essentially you get what you pay for! There is a choice of 'fat' tyres and other bike configurations.

Buck was able to suggest routes to suit our timetable.

As part of the hire you can also borrow a day pack, essential bike repair kit including spare tube, plus first aid, gloves, helmet and optional knee pads.

You can buy bike shirts, shorts, vertigo tshirts etc

We booked a 9am shuttle to take us up to Blue Tier (collected some folks from Weldborough Pub) which I would recommend as location to stay.

Then up to Blue Tier. A brief on the trail was provided and bike check by the operator. So you commence about 10.30am.

The Blue trail takes about 2 hours. It's mild to moderate in terms of technical challenge as there are easy options. A mother and 10 year old son completed it together (both had their own bikes and spds ). You do need some skill level before completing the trails.

You can take a walk up the Blue Tier walking track (not a bike track) for the view however as you have an expensive bit of bike kit wit you I would get suggest getting straight on the trail rather than leaving it at the bottom.

The Blue Tier trail is beautiful including open range (moss, lichen) creeks and temperate forest, myrtle, man ferns ect The ride is nicely rounded off with the end point at the Weldborough pub (beer o'clock!). do take your time and enjoy the environment on the way down the trail

After lunch Vertigo shuttled us to the Atlas trail. This trail is more technical so only for intermediate and advanced riders.

If you are not highly fit I recommend only one of these trails per day. Spend your afternoon exploring the lower trails.

Note that there is mostly no mobile phone reception on the trails and none in Weldborough.

The team at vertigo ensured the bike fit was right and educated the rider on use.

If you break something on the bike you pay for the replacement part. This is actually a cost efficient approach as they have an onsite bike engineer, so it's mostly small parts.

Buck, Jude and Josh were all helpful and provided great advice on biking and the local area.

Great day out thank you!

Ps if travelling interstate I recommend you bring your own camelpak in addition to your biking shorts and gloves, plus electrolytes.

Both bike hire and shuttle service were excellent. Bikes were well maintained and setup well individually. Booked the shuttle for Atlas. Excellent friendly service and informative. Buck and Jude are passionate about the region, the environment, the sport and their customers. They are a credit to the region and the industry. I visited for the excellent trails at Derby, which are great, but the service that they provide to visitors is above and beyond. A great day out.

Full morning with a shuttle of the new Big Chook track followed by Atlas. Make no mistake this is not a DH shuttle service!! There is pedalling and pushing. And some more pedalling!! Big chook is excellent and the builders have done a ripper job. Atlas is an all mountain style track with lots of technical up and down.

Make sure your physically prepared. It's a big ride.

Only thing I would change is losing the big push at the start of Big Chook and then doing that track multiple times. I reckon after you get to know the track, it would be a heap more fun!!
